Regardless of color, a Labrador Retriever is a Lab. Although dilute colors were culled for many years from breeding programs, this is no longer the case. A black, chocolate and yellow lab may carry the dilute color gene but it is only expressed when bred to another lab that also carries the dilute color gene. This makes it possible to get a champagne, silver, or charcoal puppy from a yellow, chocolate, or black Labrador. More recently some breeders have started breeding Labradors who both parents express the dilute color of silver, charcoal, or champagne to ensure a specific dilute color is expressed in the puppies. Silverdors, is one of those breeders. We make sure that all of our dogs are tested for health diseases that have been found in the breed. We will not breed a dog who has genetic health issues. We also X-ray all of our dogs for potential hip and elbow problems and make sure they pass OFA standards. We will not breed a potential health risk. We are dedicated to improving dilute colored Labradors. Don’t let anyone tell you that a dilute-colored lab is not a true Labrador Retriever. The American Kennel Club and long-time genetic testing has proven they are all Labrador Retrievers. This is the most versatile breed of dog on earth. They have proven themselves over and over, regardless of their color. It is no wonder, Labrador Retrievers have been the most popular dog for 30 years running.
